I love that the film is current and even includes concept models of Gateway and the Orion capsule, which is exciting in the exploration of Mars, the Earth’s moon, and beyond. My personal favorite was Juno’s mission to Jupiter as cyclones churned along Jupiter’s polar regions and as we marveled at the depth of Jupiter’s Great Red Spot. My 5-year-old’s favorite part was the up-close, 3D view of Saturn and its beautiful rings. The film heightens the learning experience by transporting the viewer into space with probes like the Parker Solar Probe, which is set to “touch” the sun.
The film brings to life the missions of various NASA probes, orbiters, and landers with its use of computer-generated imagery and 3D models to enhance real footage and photos from NASA and The Planetary Society. Not only is it educational, the visual effects are awesome and the 3D imaging captivates viewers of all ages. Luke Ployhar, the film’s director, called the film a “labor of love,” and that is evident throughout the film. We loved our tour of the solar system alongside various NASA robotic explorers when we previewed the film “Touch the Stars 3D” IMAX at the California Science Center.
